With the COVID-19 virus sweeping the globe, we are all doing our part by staying home and practicing social distancing. With many health officials around the world urging for self-isolation and home quarantines, many of us are stuck indoors with nothing to do this spring. This is the time of the year when we start preparing for the upcoming summer boating season. We would like to help spread the word of these online courses so you may brush up on some important boating knowledge from the comfort of your own home prior to coming to an IYT partner school school for your practical training.

1. International Crew
The International Crew Course is a level of competence that someone needs when acting as crew or watchkeeper of a small yacht in protected waters. The International Crew Course should be completed prior to taking the International Flotilla - Bareboat Skipper course.  To begin this e-learning module click here

2. International Flotilla Skipper - Bareboat Skipper
Flotilla Skipper
This course is aimed at increasing a student’s knowledge sufficiently to be a watchkeeper or a flotilla skipper on a live-aboard sail or power boat. The International Flotilla Skipper qualification is a great ”stepping stone” to safely acquiring the 200 miles and 10 days at sea as required to progress to the IYT “International Bareboat Skipper” qualification.  Those who have obtained the International Flotilla Skipper qualification, can automatically obtain the “International Certificate of Competency” (ICC).  To begin the e-learning International Flotilla Skipper course click here.

International Bareboat Skipper - This certificate is the level of competence that one needs when chartering a boat in the Mediterranean or West Indies where there are restrictions in terms of cruising area and distance from the base and the vessel has to be safely moored in a marina or anchored before dark. IYT’s International Bareboat Skipper Sail Certificate covers command of a sailing vessel with a sail area of greater than 80 square meters/861 square feet. Those who have obtained the International Bareboat Skipper qualification, can automatically obtain the “International Certificate of Competency” (ICC).  To begin the e-learning International Bareboat Skipper course click here.

ICC (International Certificate of Competency
The ICC (International Certificate of Competency) is required by many marine authorities in Europe.  If you choose an ICC e-learning course, the school you attend for practical training and certification will need to order the base level certificate for you as well as the ICC certificate.   These are noted below under each ICC course. 

4. International Certificates of Competency 24M (ICCs) – base level is International Flotilla Skipper and/or International Bareboat Skipper.
This course is a combination of International Crew, VHF/SRC Marine Communications and International Flotilla-Bareboat Skipper. 

The 24M ICC course will prepare you for an International Certificate of Competency issued in accordance with UN Resolution 40 which is a requirement in many European jurisdictions. 
There are four versions of this course to choose from. Please carefully read each description to ensure you choose the one that best suits your needs.  They are:

* Canadian Edition includes required knowledge to meet Transport Canada requirements for the ICC in lieu of PCOC.  The PCOC is Transport Canada's Pleasure Craft Operator Certificate.  This ICC is MCA approved as well as Transport Canada approved.

5. International Certificate of Competency 10M (ICCs) base level is Small Powerboat & RIB Master.
This course is theexact same course as the MCA approved Small Poweboat & RIB Master.

The 10M ICC course will prepare you for an International Certificate of Competency issued in accordance with UN Resolution 40.  If you choose this ICC e-learning course, the school you attend for practical training and certification will need to order the base level certificate for you as well as the ICC certificate.

5. Module 26: Canadian Boating Requirements (for Transport Canada Approved ICC in Lieu of PCOC)
This course is for candidates who already hold an IYT MCA Approved 24 Meter ICC and wish to gain the IYT Transport Canada approved ICC in lieu of the PCOC.  The PCOC is Transport Canada’s Pleasure Craft Operator Certificate. To begin, click here.

6. CEVNI EU Inland Waterways Endorsement
This course will allow you to learn the EU Inland Waterways Rules and challenge the final examination so you may obtain the Inland Waters Endorsement on an existing ICC for Coastal Water.  By successfully completing this course you may gain an ICC for Coastal & Inland Waters.   To begin, click here.
