We have just published a school notice which we have pasted at the bottom of this document.  The Notice is Titled:  "Issue Regarding Required ICC in Greece & Possibly Other EU Countries".

The following notation was made at the end of the notice and we are now providing the list of approved schools for students to contact if they trained for Flotilla or Bareboat Skipper with a school with which we had not inspected/approved to issue IYT MCA Recognised ICCs.

Below are the confirmed schools selected to obtain ICC’s for students from non-permissioned schools:

*Note: The procedure and cost of obtaining an ICC certificate is the same at all of these schools.

Issue Regarding Required ICC in Greece & Possibly Other EU Countries

 April 30, 2019

As most of you are aware there are new rules in place in some European countries that require the skipper to provide an ICC, International Certificate of Competency, in order to charter a vessel. They are not simply accepting the IYT Bareboat or Flotilla Skipper certificates or the RYA’s Day Skipper certificate as they note the limitation of “daylight hours”.  This has caused much chaos and people are scrambling to obtain an ICC certificate.

If a holder of an IYT Flotilla or Bareboat Skipper certificate did their course with a school approved to offer the ICC, there is no issue.  Please follow the directions on our website here to obtain an ICC.   Scroll to bottom of page for instructions.

Below outlines our plan to accommodate other holders of IYT’s Flotilla or Bareboat Skipper to obtain an IYT ICC Certificate.

FOR STUDENTS WITH VHF AND FLOTILLA SKIPPER CERTIFICATES (OR ABOVE) AWARDED BY NON-ICC PERMISSIONED SCHOOLS.

Contact IYT by emailing support@iytworld.com.  IYT will supply the names of IYT ICC permissioned schools that have been selected to process your application.  Please note the following:
  • Attending a full (40 hours) ICC course is not required.
  • A practical test is not required.
  • A theory test is required.
  • Contact a selected school stating what ICC certificate you need (see IYT website for Sail, Power, CEVNI requirements). Give your student ID # and confirm that your IYT membership and VHF & Flotilla Skipper (or above) certificates are still in date.
  • School will confirm the total cost they require for obtaining your ICC certificate.
  • School will send you a PDF of the appropriate ICC theory exam paper to complete.
  • Candidate will return to the school:
    • the completed PDF of ICC theory exam paper
    • copies (not originals) of their VHF & Flotilla Skipper (or above) certificates
  • School will mark (and retain for future IYT/MCA inspection) your ICC theory exam paper. If that is satisfactory, they will order your ICC certificate.
  • Candidate should tell school to request courier delivery if this is an urgent request and pay fees for this service.
FOR NON-ICC PERMISSIONED SCHOOLS REQUESTING AN ICC UPGRADE

Europe:
  • Complete the IYT online school application requesting the upgrade.
  • Successful applicant school owner, plus Chief Instructor if not ICC permissioned, to have Skype call with John Goode, IYT’s Chief Examiner in Europe, before final approval.
  • John will advise enquiring schools:
    • That applications to upgrade to ICC will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
    • That permission can only be given to those that have been audited &/or visited by an IYT representative.
    • *Meanwhile, they may refer their students to a list of selected ICC permissioned schools.
Outside Europe:
  • Complete the IYT online school application requesting the upgrade.
  • Remember that applications to upgrade to ICC will be considered on a case-by-case basis and that permission can only be given to those that have been audited &/or visited by an IYT representative.
  • We will do our best to carry out an audit as soon as possible but it will be based on location and availability of an auditor.
*A list of schools selected to handle the administration will be posted on IYT support site in the upcoming days.

We appreciate your cooperation.

Sincerely,
The IYT Team
